Omanu School is a decile 6 State School catering for Yr 1 to Yr 6 students.
It is situated at Mount Maunganui and was established in 1955. It is a U5 school (Roll 301 - 502) with a current roll of approx 520 (December-2010), a teaching staff of 22 and support staff of 12. It encompasses an area of 2.7 hectares. The buildings consist of 3 classroom blocks built in 1955 (5 rooms) 1960 (5 rooms) and 1992 (3 rooms.) There are 5 relocatable classrooms, a hall, Library - Learning Centre, Information Technology Centre, Music Room (owned by the Community), a new Arts Centre and a number of ancillary rooms used for Resource storage, School Maintenance and Support Services, Adventure playgrounds, a swimming pool, ‘hard’ areas and playing fields providing a range of excellent facilities for children and staff.
The school experienced rapid growth from 1991 - 1998. With the opening of 3 new schools in the area, roll growth stabilized but forecasts predict that current levels will continue to grow.
